Cinnamon Rolls {Gluten & Dairy Free}

There is just something special about biting into a warm, gooey cinnamon roll. Finding a delicious recipe that works with our family’s food allergies can be a challenge though. With a little searching and some tweaking of ingredients I was able to make these delicious cinnamon rolls for my family!

The original gluten-free recipe came from Pamela’s website. I tweaked it a little to make it dairy-free. Here is my version of these yummy cinnamon rolls.

Ingredients for the Dough: *contains an affiliate link*

  • 2-7/8 cups of Pamela’s Artisan Flour Blend
  • 1-1/4 tsp salt
  • 3 tsp yeast
  • 1/4 cup warm water
  • 1 cup rice milk
  • 1/4 cup sugar
  • 6 TBSP Earth Balance Buttery Spread
  • 1 large egg

Ingredients for the Filling:

  • 6 TBSP Earth Balance Buttery Spread
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 1 TBSP + 1 tsp cinnamon

Ingredients for the Icing:

  • 1/4 cup Spectrum Shortening
  • 1 cup powdered sugar
  • 5 TBS maple syrup (the real kind)
  • Rice Milk (add by the Tablespoon until you get desired consistency)

Directions for the Cinnamon Rolls:

  1. Warm the milk on the stove, turn off heat and add sugar and butter. While it cools put the yeast in warm water. Mix the flour and salt together and then add the milk/butter/sugar mixture, the yeast/water mixture along with the egg. Mix on low for a few seconds then on high for about a minute.
  1. Spray two sheets of parchment paper with oil. Place dough on one sheet of parchment paper and then place the other sheet on top. Roll dough to form a rectangle about 12 x 10″. Remove the top sheet of parchment paper and spread the filling over the dough, leaving a 1″ perimeter all around the dough. Using the parchment, roll up the long side forming a log. Cut into 12 pieces and place in a  9X13″ pan, sprayed with oil. Brush tops of dough with melted Earth Balance (or spray with oil). Cover with plastic wrap, place in your oven and let it sit overnight.
  1. The next morning, remove covering, bake in pre-heated oven at 375° for 25 to 30 minutes.

Directions for the Frosting:

While the cinnamon rolls are baking…

Mix all the frosting ingredients together with a mixer. Add rice milk until you get the consistency you like. Then spread over warm cinnamon rolls.

    • Well, I’m not sure the cinnamon rolls are all that healthy. 😉 They do have a lot of sugar…. but they are gluten and dairy free so my family can enjoy them once in awhile! Now, next weekend I’ll be sharing a super healthy and delicious recipe!

      • Hey, but for cinnamon rolls, that’s pretty healthy – even the aroma of cinnamon rolls baking is fattening anyway. Cinnamon rolls are one of those things that make me go to the other side of the mall. 🙂
