5th Grade Homeschool Curriculum Choices

Last year I switched my daughter’s curriculum mid-year and tried video lessons (which I said I’d never do). I was surprised by how well she did with them so this year I am having her try out BJU Press Distance Learning curriculum for many of her subjects. You can check out all of my 5th grade homeschool curriculum choices below or watch me share them in this video.

I love when we can learn together as a family. With so many kids doing video courses this year, I wanted to make sure we still did at least one thing together. That’s going to be Bible! We will be reading from God’s Word, memorizing scripture, learning doctrinal truths through catechisms and discussing difficult questions. Here are the resources I will be using this year for our Bible time.

Spelling and Reading

I love the Spell to Write and Read program so we will continue using it this year along with BJU Press Distance Learning Reading.

My daughter’s penmanship is quite good but I’d like her to continue in her penmanship practice one more year. She learned cursive with Cursive First so she will use the Cursive First cursive technique to form her letters but do them in the BJU Handwriting workbook.

My 5th grader will be working on grammar and composition through BJU Press Distance Learning Online. I’ve heard a lot of great things about how they incorporate grammar and writing together. I’m looking forward to trying it out this year.

When you find a curriculum that you love and that works for your kids, you stick with it!

She will be getting some excellent instruction in science this year from Miss Ingersoll over at BJU Press Distance Learning. I’ve watched a few lessons already and am really excited about what she will be learning and the quality of instruction she will receive.

I’ve mentioned before, that it was hard for me to purchase video programs for my kids this year. I love teaching them and learning together as a family. This year I needed more of my kids to work independently so we went with a lot of BJU Press Distance Learning. So for history, she will be doing another Distance Learning video from BJU Press.
