4th Grade Homeschool Curriculum Choices
Here is a look at the homeschool curriculum my youngest child will be using this year in our homeschool.
Bible
Last year I really enjoyed using the the Studying the Bible curriculum from Foundation Worldview with my two youngest children. This year I’ll be using their Comparative Worldview curriculum with my 4th and 6th grader. I’m excited to try out another video-based Bible course from Foundation Worldview!
I will also be taking all of my kids (still at home) through a study of Proverbs and church history. We will be using the Proverbs Study Guide from Generations to guide us through our study of Proverbs and Church History by Simonetta Carr for our study of church history.
English
My son will be working through the English 3 online video curriculum from BJU Press this year. This curriculum will allow him to work independently on grammar and writing. The Homeschool Hub schedules out all his grammar and writing lessons and lets me know when he’s completed assignments that need to be checked or graded.
I’ll be working through All About Spelling and All About Reading with my son for his spelling and reading lessons. We’ve enjoyed this curriculum and the time spent together improving his spelling and reading skills.
- BJU Press English 3 online video lessons (for writing and grammar)
- All About Spelling (for spelling)
- All About Reading (for reading)
Math
My son has done so well with the BJU Press math curriculum over the years so we are sticking with it for another year of homeschooling. This year he will be using the BJU Press Math 4 curriculum with the video lessons through the Homeschool Hub.
Science
Each year, my son looks forward to another BJU Press science course. This year is no exception! We are thrilled to try out the brand new Science 4 video course this year.
History
My kids and I have enjoyed using Notgrass History curriculum over the years so my son and I are excited to try out Our 50 States from Notgrass History. We have found memories of using Our Star-Spangled Story a few years ago. I share more about that curriculum in this video.
Homeschool Curriculum Choices (2025-2026)
Here’s a look at my curriculum choices for my other kids.
Hello, I was looking into BJU English and it states that it teaches homophones, suffixes, and prefixes in it’s spelling. Does All About Spelling teach this? So if I got English BJU, All About Spelling for Spelling, BJU Handwriting and used our Sonlight readers….I was curious where the homophones and such would be taught?
All About Spelling teaches phonetic rules, suffixes, prefixes, and homophones.
BJU Press has multiple language arts curriculum: English (which covers grammar and writing), Reading (and then Literature for the older grades), Handwriting, and Spelling. Their language arts curriculum for kindergarten and 1st grade focus on phonics, as it should.
So if you have a child in 2nd grade or above and you are using the things you listed then AAS would cover spelling rules, homophones, suffixes, and prefixes. BJU Handwriting for handwriting. Sonlight readers for reading. And then BJU Press English would be for grammar and writing. Note that BJU English will have some lessons on prefixes, sufffixes, and homophones as they relate to grammar topics. You could use this for reinforcement or skip these lessons as they will be covered in AAS.
I hope that all makes sense.
I see, so do you think I should drop something? IF I switch to BJU 3 grade English, 3 grade readers from Sonlight, and then used AAS would that be all I need?
That should cover it all unless you want to add in a handwriting curriculum.
OK, OK last question!!! I am curious why you chose to include all about reading, when you also have BJU English? I thought that covered reading as well.
Great question! BJU Press English covers grammar and writing (not reading). BJU Press does have a reading curriculum that I like to use after my kids have completed AAR because the BJU Press Reading curriculum focuses more on reading comprehension and things like character, plot, etc. Hope that makes sense.
