1st Grade Homeschool Curriculum Choices 2017-2018

Is it already time to start another homeschool year? Well, that means it is time to share my homeschool curriculum choices for the 2017-2018 school year. I am trying out some new curriculum and sticking with a few favorites. Here are my 1st grade homeschool curriculum choices.

My younger children and I do our Bible time together. We read from God’s Word, memorize scripture, learn doctrinal truths through catechisms and discuss difficult questions. Here are the resources I will be using this year for our Bible time.

Phonics, Spelling and Reading

I love the Spell to Write and Read program so we will continue using it this year.

My first grader is learning cursive before print so this year we will continue to work on her cursive penmanship. She will be rotating between the two curriculums below.

Spell to Write and Read provides sufficient instruction in grammar and writing for a first grader. However, my daughter enjoys doing workbooks so the Abeka Language book will be available for her to do but will be optional.

When you find a curriculum that you love and that works for your kids, you stick with it!

I usually stick to library books and exploring nature when it comes to science in 1st grade. However, my older kids are using BJU Press Distance Learning and my 1st grader didn’t want to be left out. So, I purchased a one semester video science course from BJU Press.

Since science was one semester, I also picked up a one semester heritage studies course from BJU Press. She will be doing this with DVDs as well.
